Valentine's Day Candle Wax Clean-Up

Valentine’s Day Candle Wax Tips

We are getting extremely excited for Valentine’s Day here at Pikes Peak Chem-Dry! Sometimes the Valentine’s Day festivities can leave more of a mess than you expect. Candle wax can prove to be a special pest in the clean-up project, as its unique texture cannot be taken care of by traditional methods. We know a bunch of neat tips and tricks to get that carpet looking great in any situation, and a candle wax spill is no exception!

Things You Will Need

- Ice

- Waterproof Ziploc Bag

- Dull Knife

- Paper bag or Clean White Cloth

- Cleaning Cloths/Towels

- An Iron

- Carpet Cleaning Solution (optional)

  1. When the spill first occurs, try to act quickly, as timely clean up of the initial spill makes the whole process run much smoother and easier.
  2. Fill the waterproof Ziploc bag with ice. What we are trying to accomplish here is to freeze the wax so you can start scraping up the easy larger pieces. It’s vitally important that the candle wax is not getting wet from condensation or water leaking from the bag. Moisture can potentially make the stain a lot more of a pain to remove, so please use caution here.
  3. Now take that dull knife and scrape the candle wax off to the best of your ability.
  4. For this step, you can use either a brown paper bag or a clean white cloth. Spread whichever material you choose over the stained area. Make sure that the iron is plugged in and warmed up. However, be sure that the iron is on a low temperature so that no fibers on the carpet are singed.
  5. Begin by running the iron over the affected area. When you iron over the candle wax it will start to melt. As the substance melts, it should transfer onto the warmer surface (which will be the brown paper bag or clean towel). You might have to repeat this step a couple of times to make sure all of the wax gets out. Just be sure to use a clean, fresh paper bag or towel each time.
  6. After you’ve gotten a majority of the wax out, there still might be little pieces of wax left. These small bits are very easy to clean up. Simply take a hot, damp clean cloth and vigorously rub the leftover stained area. You can always use a store bought carpet cleaner on the stained area, if needed.

We’ve got you covered here at Pikes Peak Chem-Dry! We hope you enjoyed this handy advice, and that you won’t be as hesitant to light some candles for that special somebody as a result!

Tile & Stone

*Based on studies conducted by independent laboratories of Chem-Dry’s HCE (Hot Carbonating Extraction), P.U.R.T. (Pet Urine Removal Treatment), Granite Countertop Renewal, and Tile, Stone & Grout cleaning processes. Allergens tested were dog and cat dander and dust mite allergen. Pet odor results based on testing with the most common odor sources found in dog and cat urine. Pet urine bacteria results based on Chem-Dry’s HCE cleaning process and a sanitizer, combined with P.U.R.T. All bacteria results include use of sanitizer. Figures are an average across multiple tests.
